Prayer is the most powerful weapon that a Christian possesses.
Prayer is the most potent resource that a Christian possesses.
Someone has said that, "prayer makes a common, ordinary Christian an extraordinary and supernatural force for God in this world." Prayer can move the throne of Heaven and shake the gates of Hell.
We must never underestimate the power of prayer in the life of our nation.
We must never underestimate the importance of prayer in the life of our nation.
When God's people, of all ages pray, our Almighty God responds!
Jeremiah 33:3, "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."
Charles Spurgeon said, "If an many can truly pray, he can do just about anything."
There is nothing wrong with our homes, churches, or nation that cannot be corrected by genuine, Holy Ghost empowered prayer.
When praying for our nation...
We Must Be Serious In Our Prayers. I was told by a fellow a number of year ago that "Prayers for our nation are a waste of time." To that I respond that empty, ritualistic, insincere, and unbelieving prayers are definitely a waste of time. However, genuine, earnest, humble, and sincere prayers prayed in faith, believing God's promises concerning prayer are the greatest investment of our time that can be made.
Serious prayer is one of the chief characteristics of an earnest and sincere Christian.
Serious prayer is one of the chief characteristics of an earnest and sincere church. The Apostle Paul is arguably one of the most powerful and influential Christians in all church history and it is significant to note that immediately after his salvation as recorded in Acts chapter nine, he began praying. Act 9:11, "And the Lord said unto him [Ananias], Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth," Colossian 4:12 tells us that Epaphras was , "...always labouring fervently for you in prayers..." Our prayers are a powerful force in altering the course of our nation, bringing revival to our churches, and restoring broken and hurting homes and marriages, but we must be serious and fervent in our prayers.
We Must Be Specific In Our Prayers. Although we are grateful for any prayers prayed for our land, however, if they are going to be effective and make a difference, they must be specific. General unspecific prayers for God to "bless" our land have little effect. We must be specific in our requests. We're instructed in 1Timothy 2:1-2, "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty." Notice that we are told to pray specifically that we may lead quiet and peaceable lives. We are to pray for godliness and honesty. We should pray specifically for our national leaders by name and that God will turn their hearts toward righteousness (Proverbs 14:34, "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people."). We should pray specifically for revival in our churches. The spiritual well being of a nation is directly dependent upon the spiritual vitality of our churches. We should pray specifically for God's healing and grace upon our homes. The condition of our homes has a direct impact on the spiritual well being of our churches.
We Must Be Submissive In Our Prayers. Isaiah 6:8, "Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me." Act 9:6, "And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?" We must be willing to not only pray, but to go and do as God directs us. There is a desperate need for pastors of churches that are without pastors. There is a desperate need for church planters in cities, towns, and communities without churches. There is a desperate need for personal soul winners in the churches across our land.
There are many books about prayer. There are many songs about prayer. There are many sermons (and blogs) about prayer, but what we really need to do is pray! Pray seriously, specifically, and submissively.
